Mariana Pestana (1997) is an artist from Lisbon living in Stockholm.
Working through a vast spectrum of media, her work begins with the gathering of abandoned objects. While this quest originates from a rationalised intention, the decision to collect them is the result of an impulsive attraction. These bodies – that are extensions of the human condition – are then placed in the studio, the place where everything happens. Throughout her process, there is a constant negotiation between her role as a collector and as an artist. In the first, the duty to preserve as it is, is binding; in the latter, to question what an object can be, is the pursuit. She actively searches for the shattering of such limits, seeking and creating tensions between them.
